CHILD ABUSE AWARENESS

Child abuse awareness project

As known, child abuse is the most spoken in African countries, I conducted a child abuse awareness project that took three months so that to reduce the number of abusive actions that are recorded every day in Zanzibar, I decided to take this actions after I heard a news from a radio station saying that 11 kids were abuse in just one day and that touched my heart and as volunteer wanted to do something. Objectives of the child abuse awareness project

  1. To increase a kid's awareness of the abusive environment and enable them to take reasonable steps so that they are safe from child abuse.
  2. To listen to the children and know what they face when they are in the community
  3. To enable children to understand what to do to remain safe in the community
  4. To enable children to know what are the effects of experiencing child abuse in their lives
  5. To enable parents to understand how can they protect their children from child abuse and what actions they do to kids may lad them to be abused
  6. To develop volunteering spirits to young adults and develop them with public speaking skills

The project had three seasons, the first season involved kids and teachers in different schools and this season was mostly about teaching kids how to behave well in the community so that to protect themselves from abuse.
This season affected more than 50 kids directly and they all took a promise to read other kids and teach them about what they have learned. Approximately if every kid teaches 5 kids then there will be 250 children aware of Child abuse and what to do to protect themselves from abuse, and that is a pretty good number for starting.

The second season involved youths and parents where they were taught mostly on the effects of child abuse and what they should do to protect the kids from abuse. This took about three weeks and approximately 100 youths and parents were reached and if everyone teaches 10 people then 1000 parents will know how to protect their kids from abuse and youths will be able to know the effects of abuse and they will save kids from abuse.

The project involved YES program Alumni in Zanzibar, Roots and shoots members, Right Way Learning Center teachers, Zanzibar Commercial Secondary School students, Lumumba Secondary Schools students and teachers, an expert from State University of Zanzibar, and many other parents and youths from Zanzibar
